A S Brook-Golf is based at Hunley Hall Golf Club but you don't need to be a member to enjoy having a go at golf. Don't let the thought of "The Golf Club" put you off. The driving range and club house facilities are open to everyone. Tuition is available 4 days a week with times to suit most people.
All golf tuition at A S Brook-Golf is given by Class AA, PGA Professional Andrew Brook.
Andrew has over 25 years experience teaching players of all abilities, from the novice to fellow professionals.
Andrew's idea to teaching golf is to keep things as simple and near natural as possible. The use of tried and tested principals emphasizing club and target relationships produces fast and effective results. A big part of Andrew's teaching is to get the golfer thinking about what they want from each shot, talking through what each swing feels like and what the player experiences.
Novices are first taught the basic fundamentals, grip, stance, posture and alignment followed by the basic movements of the body to produce a swinging movement. Emphasis is placed on how to achieve momentum of the club and body, relating to other sports the golfer may have played.
Andrew gives tuition on all the aspects of the game:-
Basic Swing for both right and left handed players
Long, Mid and Short irons
Woods including driving
Short game including putting
Bunkers
Course Management
Coaching using the latest computer video analysis technology is also available. We use the C-Swing computer program as used by leading coaches throughout the world as a tool to highlight and analise more complicated swing faults where both the player and coach would benefit. The C-Swing computer video analysis program allow you to compare your swing with some of the leading players of the world. It also allows you to compare swings from previous sessions with your current session. Computer analysis takes a little longer, so all sessions including the use of computer analysis are at least 1 hour in duration.
Your experience will usually determine what type of coaching you should be looking to take. If you are just starting or have had a go but with no formal instruction my recommendation would be basic one to one instruction in the form of a series of 30 minutes lessons covering the basics such as the grip, stance, posture and simple swing movements. I would recommend at least 6 lessons and would spread them over an 8 week period. An important addition to these lessons is to have at least 2 practice sessions per week in between each lesson.
If you have been playing for a little while and had basic instruction or are wanting to take the next step after our basic one to one lessons, then I would recommend lessons including video playback and computer analysis. Again look at taking a series of sessions. I usually recommend at least 4 sessions, this time over a period of approximately 12 weeks. Each session will look in more detail, different aspects of your swing. Some of the time will be spent consolidating what you will have been working on in the basic lessons, but the majority of the time will be spent building your swing to its full potential. Practice is a must to get the most out of your lessons, with a minimum of 2 sessions a week on the range between each lesson.
Don't forget the short game. Why do the players you watch on the television shot good scores? Because they can chip and putt. To be a good player you need to a least learn how to play the basic shots around the green. Think about our short game course to do this, 4 x 30 minutes sessions each one covering a different shot including; chipping, pitching, greenside bunkers and putting.
For the juniors we run our Saturday morning club. Open to youngsters between the ages of 6 to 15 these one hour group sessions are a great way to "have a go". Our Saturday morning club is ongoing throughout the year so it is a matter of just joining in. All the aspects of the game are covered including sessions on the rules of golf. During the summer months we also run various skills challenges in conjunction with the Engligh Golf Union.
We also run our 3 days residential golf schools over the year. These offer a more intensive approach with 3 sessions of upto 3 hours coaching. During each session we use the Cswing computer analysis system to help you see what you have to work on. Each 3 day golf school includes upto 9 hours coaching in a smal group (max 6 people), unlimited golf at Hunley Hall Golf Club, 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast accommodation and use of all the practice facilities during your stay.
